First time I have participated in Carole’s “Ten on Tuesday” since I changed my blog over to Et Voilà! Design site. I figure it was time to join in again, and quite appropriate as I spend plenty of time in la cuisine. Criteria for this list: smallest and most used gadgets.
- Citrus Juicer / Presser –Vintage Edition. I found this at a small flea market in Washington, NH. It’s not a small gadget, but it’s terribly impressive. In my opinion, nothing juices citrus better than this relic.
- Kitchen Scale – Middle of the road (pricewise) This particular scale goes from oz to grams in both solid and liquid. I found this gadget quite necessary when I moved to France, and use it often as I’m still mastering grams to ounces and ounces to grams, etc… and writing French recipes to English
- Herbs de Provence Grinder – I found this special olive wood grinder about 10 years ago at the Paris Christmas Markets. I have been unable to find back the vendor, but I did spot a beautiful set at E. Dehillerin. This grinder is dedicated solely to Herbs de Provence. I have two others, one for coarse salt and one for Peppercorns. This one gets used daily.
- Julienne Peeler – I find that I use this peeler quite often right now. I have recently cut pasta (mostly) from my diet and one of the replacements in zucchini spaghetti. This one works like a charm.
- Quikut Paring knife –This little PC knife is great, razor sharp and quite inexpensive. I believe Once Upon a Time you could get three for 1 or 2 dollars.
- Veggie scrubber – As we have the great fortune of having great produce here in France and I am fortunate that my hubby loves all vegetables, we eat more than our share.
- Microplane – I can’t say I use this daily, but when it comes time to shred that Parmigiano Reggiano on my zucchini pasta, this is the best! Great for zesting citrus, grating nutmeg, chocolate, etc…
- Mini Wisk – I mix up a homemade salad dressing/vinaigrette daily, and this is the perfect tool to amalgamate the vinegar and olive oil, mustard, or whatever else I’ve added to the dressing.
- Garlic press – Yes, I know how to smash garlic with the flat side of a knife and then chop, but I still prefer the garlic press. Pop in a clove of unpeeled garlic, and voilà.
- Bag clips – These silly things do come in handy for sure, you can get a bag of 30 for 3,99 euros at Ikea.
